According to a famous pathologist sleep is the body's great restorer and the best sleep is early sleep before midnight.  During good rest, each cell of your body has tiny granules of chemicals such as hormones and other form  of energy stores, which are depleted during the day and take hours to be replenished.  Your nervous system, especially needs a good night's sleep to be at it's best the next day.

A neurophysiologist cited that ordinary sleep may be classified into four levels.  Grade A, sleep is the best and the deepest.  It is characterized by very slow, deep, large brain waves.  In this state the brain is resting maximally; the heart also slows, and the blood pressure is the lowest of the entire day.  Grade B and Grade C are average and Grade D is just barely deeper than being drowsy.

How much sleep

Sleep problems on those working at night.  Rotation shifts are the biggest problem in getting adequate sleep, because the biological "clock" is on a cycle of about twenty-five hours, it is best to rotate clockwise rather than counterclockwise.  Several weeks must be allowed on each shift before rotating again.

Sleep apnea symptoms

If one has had inadequate sleep during the night, there will be a tendency to catnap the next day, feel tired, or perhaps have trouble concentrating.  Such episodes usually take place on the "dream sleep" (REM) level.  An individual with this disorder is not a safe driver on the road hence one should be aware on the importance of recognizing the symptoms.

Obstructive sleep apnea treatment

According to the Clinical Director of Comprehensive Sleep Disorders Institute, an estimated one in every thirty adults has sleep apnea.  Studies show that there is a decreased oxygen intake caused by obstructive throat muscle contraction during sleep.  The resultant low oxygen level alerts the brain to the need of more oxygen; awakens the person and breathes voluntarily until he again falls asleep.  This disorder is most common in obese persons, and the treatment is to lose weight.  People with this condition believe they slept through the night and do not remember their short awakening doctors revealed.

Repeated arousal during the night produce fatigue or morning headaches the next day. Sleeping pills or alcohol at bedtime are not the answer to this problem.  To lessen one's sleepless nights according to a study is to decrease stress caused by watching exciting television programs just before going to bed.  It is advisable to take warm, relaxing bath at bedtime.

Sleep is not a simple process, it is essential to good health, it is important that we avoid a hectic lifestyle that disturbs our sleep, and which may have a far-reaching effects on our body.
